10 Favorite Movie Cars
This car is featured in the opening scenes of the movie. It delivered the best chase scene of the entire movie setting the stage for a solid movie. The WRX is just a cool car.
This classic Ferrari just looks cool the instant you see it. The vehicle is off limits to Cameron, so of course, Ferris insists on using it. Being forbidden just makes it more appealing. Just ask the valet attendants seen getting airborne later in the movie.
The original Italian Job featured a Mini Cooper, and so does the remake. I have a soft spot for the Mini Cooper. It think they are fun, slick, and interesting. They are used to great effect in the movie where they hit tight turns, down inclines, and fly underground in subways. They actually had to design special electric version of these cars as gas powered engines were not allowed underground.
The Mazda RX-7 is just an amazing vehicle. This special edition belonged to Han, and was seen drifting through the famous Shibuya crossing in Tokyo. The vehicle is then smashed into by Deckard Shaw (as we found out later) killing Han…or so we thought.
The early Fast and Furious movies were all about the cars. There are so many amazing ones that it’s hard to choose. The Supra however, is my favorite. In the movie, Brian brings the wreckage of a Supra into Dom’s garage where they proceed to rebuild it from scratch. It then out-duels a Ferrari on the open road.
No list would be complete without a Batmobile. Every Batman movie had it’s signature bat vehicle. They were almost always outlandish and ridiculous, but also amazing. I liked the one from Batman Forever best due to the exposed engine slits and the lit wheels.
Speaking of movies that are all about the cars, I give you Gone is 60 Seconds. In a movie featuring so many cars, the crown jewel is the GT500. Nicknamed Eleanor, it represents Nicholas Cage’s white whale. This is another vehicle that has an ignominious end as it ends up getting crushed. So sad.
Some vehicles are awesome because they’re fast. Some because they have classic beauty. Some have futuristic sleek. None have the class, the attitude, and the panache of the 1984 Ford Econoline “Sheep Dog”. Many memories were made in this vehicle: “You want to hear the most annoying sound in the world?” , “You can’t triple stamp a double stamp!”, and of course, “You drove a sixth of the way across the country in the wrong direction!” And we also know the vehicle’s true value, as it was traded straight up for a small motorized scooter. Name me a more iconic vehicle, I dare you!
Bond and Aston Martins go hand-in-hand. I could have gone with one of the older classic ‘Bond cars’, but the 2007 BDS in this movie is just amazing. It exudes elegance and luxury while maintaining a fierce and fast vibe. Not to mention all the bond related enhancements.
There really wasn’t another option for number one. The Delorean is, perhaps, the most iconic car in movie history. There are several reasons for its fame: the quality of the movies; the gull-wing doors; the flux capacitor. I think, however, the DeLorean Motor Company’s flame out shortly after the movie is a big factor. There haven’t been 40 years of further DeLorean models to compare. This car represents the pinnacle of the company. Even today, whenever I see a Delorean, I get excited. The DMC-12 is a well deserved number 1.
Here’s a pic of a DeLorean I saw this spring:
