5 Films to watch on hulu

1. Blade (note: leaving Hulu November 30th)

Stylistic, sleek comic book movie focused on a human/vampire hybrid named Blade (Wesley Snipes) who is seeking to thwart the attempt to take over the world by an underground vampire cabal

2. High Fidelity

Independent record store owner Rob (John Cusack) attempts to lessen the sting of his most recent breakup by comparing it to his breakups of the past.  This attempt fails spectacularly.   It is a great look into the hard parts of relationships and what makes a good one last.

3. Terminator: Dark Fate

Newest installment of the Terminator franchise sees the return of Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) as the timeline of the movies continues to shift and evolve.   Carl/T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) returns to try and right some of his past wrongs.

4. Gemini Man

Henry Brogan (Will Smith) finds himself in the midst of a conspiracy to create super soldiers, which leads him into direct conflict with the man who raised him (Clive Owen), and an adversary he could never have expected to face.

5. Parasite

A film that delves into the concept of class struggle and simple family dynamics when a family unit is faced with adversity.  It is a Korean film, and has subtitles throughout.   A tremendous story that is worth having to read the dialogue, and warrants multiple watches.

5 films to watch on HBO max

1. Ad Astra

A unique sci-fi film that uses everything at it’s disposal (music, setting, cinematography, writing) to perfection in dealing the the topic of isolation.  This is truly a character film with Brad Pitt at the center.  Great special effects.

2. JoJo Rabbit

One of the best films from 2019. This movie is perfectly executed.  Set in Germany during WWII, a little boy struggles between the Hitler Youth dogma and his real life experience with a Jewish girl. This movie is fun, poignant, and powerful.

3. Unbreakable

This classic film from M. Night Shyamalan is a subtle superhero origin story.  Great acting from Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis is highlighted by superb directing.  Pay attention to the use of color and unusual camera angles.

4. Flight of the Phoenix

After their plane crashes in the desert, the misfit crew and passengers struggle to survive and pin their hopes on creating a new plane out the wreckage.  This is a fun adventure story that delves into topics of leadership, purpose, and hope.

5. The Way Back

Ben Affleck stars as an alcoholic ex-basketball star with no purpose in life, who is asked to coach his old high school team.  This isn’t always an easy film to watch but it is very well acted and highlights the need for purpose in life.
