Here are 10 films to check out on Prime:
Air Force One – (1997)
Air Force One follows the President of the United States, James Marshall (Harrison Ford) as his plane is threatened by a group of terrorists, led by the erstwhile Ivan Korshunov (played with chameleon like skill by Gary Oldman). It is one of the quintessential 90’s action blockbusters. The effects are comically outdated at times, but the action is always enjoyable.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs – (2009)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs follows the misadventures of young inventor Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader). Based on the popular children’s book, it manages to expand the idea in uproarious ways. There are hilarious one liners throughout, and a few serious moments in just the right places. As Steve the Monkey would say, “GUMMY BEARS!” Watch this movie and you will understand.
Goldeneye – (1995)
Goldeneye is one of several Bond movies making their way to the Amazon Prime service this December. Starring Pierce Brosnan in the titular role, the movie is a globetrotting, action packed whirlwind of extravagance. The movie has also been in the news lately, as one of the major setpieces had a recent catastrophic incident. The Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, where the denouement of the film was shot, had its radio telescope collapse on December 1st.
Thank You for Smoking – (2005)
Thank You for Smoking is a rarely seen look into the world of lobbyists and corporate greed in America. Nick Naylor (Aaron Eckhart) is a conniving lobbyist, who will stop at nothing to do the work of his employer, and that employer could be anyone. It is a look at ethics that is accessible for an everyday audience. At times slimy and sweet, Naylor is both a warning and a point of hope as we look to our future.
The Natural – (1984)
The Natural follows the story of washed up baseball player Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford). Utilizing flashbacks and a strong narrative, it weaves the story of what happens for one man when his dreams do not come true. It is one of the most uplifting sports films around, and should be required viewing for anyone who calls themselves a baseball fan. Even if you are not, watch it anyway! The music of the film’s biggest moment is epic and well known. It is likely you have heard it, even if you have never seen this classic.
