Romance Movies You’ll Both Enjoy

Romance Movies You’ll Both Enjoy
February 14, 2021 by Ryan Dunlevy

It’s Valentine’s Day. Time to curl up with the one you love and watch a movie that one of you will hate. Wait…that doesn’t sound like fun.

Film for Fans is here to help.  Here are our recommendations for romantic movies you’ll both enjoy.

The classics

You’ve Got Mail – 1998

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are excellent as always, and you’ll get nostalgia for the time when email wasn’t the bane of our existence.

Streaming: Hulu

What Women Want – 2000

Mel Gibson getting to hear what women think leads to lots of fun comical scenes, but it’s his character transformation to win Helen Hunt that makes this an enjoyable movie.

The Comedies

Date Night – 2010

Chaos ensues when Steve Carell and Tina Fey change up their boring date night by stealing a restaurant reservation.  These two comedic geniuses make every scene fun and enjoyable, plus you get some great cameos.

Streaming: Hulu

Just Friends – 2005

Ryan Reynolds returns to his hometown and attempts to win his high school crush.  This movie is one hilariously embarrassing scene after another, as Reynolds fails over and over again to win over Amy Smart.  If you’ve ever been stuck in the friends zone, you’ll appreciate this movie.

The underrated

Age of Adaline – 2015

Blake Lively stars in this drama about a woman who doesn’t age, and a man trying to win her heart despite the barriers she has in place.  The movie has a intriguing premise that’s heart-felt and engaging.  The acting is stellar from all the main characters.

A Lot Like Love – 2005

This movie gives you snap shots of a couple (Ashton Kucher and Amanda Peet) and their journey of near misses.  You’ll connect with the idea that people often need to grow and change to be ready for the right relationship.

Upside Down – 2012

Gotta love a romance movie with a sci-fi premise. A man (Jim Sturgess) attempts to reconnect with a lost love (Kirsten Dunst) despite the fact that they live in twin worlds with opposite gravity.  This movie has a very unique premise which creates an engaging story.  The visuals are also quite interesting.
